CPQ is a term commonly used for the process leading up to generating a quotation for companies offering complex products and/or services.

The goal of CPQ software is to help companies with their complex sales process, i.e. configure complicated product offerings, calculate pricing in a correct way, and finally create fast and accurate quotations based on that information.

Configure: The process of selecting and combining product and service options to create a configured product. During this process all product rules and constraints should be taken into consideration. Examples are for example manufacturing or packaging restrictions, marketing decisions or functional limitations.

Price: The calculation of the amount required for payment for the configured product. Examples may be economic benefits, manufacturing costs or even competition’s pricing.

Quote: Creation of a document that describes the requested products and services, and the price of these.
