In 2003, Frederik Taleman spent his breaks from computer science classes watching his father, a salesman for a door manufacturer, drown in paperwork. Every door had various variations and every variation meant another hour of manual price calculations. It was a slow, tedious process where a single typo could cost a fortune.
Frederik didn’t set out to "disrupt an industry." He just wanted to give his father his evenings back. He sat down and built a program to digitize the logic of a door. Suddenly, what took hours now took seconds. The efficiency didn’t just improve; it exploded. In that small manufacturing office, Hive was born from a simple realization: complexity shouldn't be a barrier to speed.

For years, the idea hummed in the background. Frederik knew that if he could solve the "door problem," he could solve the "complex product problem" for any industry. In 2017, he officially laid the foundation for Hive CPQ.
He didn't want to build just another piece of heavy, corporate software. He was obsessed with innovative simplicity. He believed that even the most complex industrial machines should be as easy to quote as a cup of coffee. By focusing on the human side of the sale, Frederik built Hive on a foundation of trust and radical efficiency. He wasn't just selling software; he was selling a way to make manufacturing feel modern again.

Today, the "student project" has gone global. Hive CPQ now powers sales teams across the world, helping them navigate the intricate dance of modern manufacturing. We’ve seen our customers transform their sales cycles from weeks of back-and-forth into a seamless, digital experience.
But as we look toward the future, we haven't forgotten the lesson from 2003: Business is personal. We continue to iterate, improve, and push the boundaries of what CPQ can do, all while keeping the user at the heart of the Hive.
